Bakit bawal akong mag-shoot sa bansa ko?
My legs are still killing me after attending the first photowalk/silent protest organized by "Bawal Mag-Shoot Dito", one of the facebook group pages that I am a part of. I got to the meeting point at around 10:00am as most of the photographers there were already wearing their BMSD shirt. I was able to get one as I have mine reserved a few days ago. After changing costumes, we started walking from Jollibee in Kalaw to the Rizal Monument at the Luneta Park.

I was not surprised to see a lot of photographers (amateurs and professionals) waiting for the walk to start. I saw some of the well known photographers in the industry like Berns Mejias, Edwin Tuyay, Lito Sy among others. Once the walk started, I took some snapshots enroute to Luneta Park. Once we got there, security guards tried to stop us but we were able to convey our message. They even tried to call the head of security to lead them in a conversation. When one of the photographers asked "Bakit Bawal?" he couldn't give out a straight answer.

There were media to cover the event as well which means our voices will be heard and our actions will be seen. As the conversation progresses, Mr Mel Cortez (a well-known photojournalist and cheif photographer of Decisive Moments) came and was being interviewed by the media. Some would probably say that we are staging a protest. We didn't! But rather its a walk moving forward to raise the question "Bakit Bawal Magshoot Dito" here in our country. For me, its disheartening to see our fellow Filipino photographers being reprimanded by our fellow Filipinos while foreigners can take pictures without being asked.

After Luneta, we head off to Fort Santiago as it is also historic as well as it is the place where Dr Jose Rizal was imprisoned. Though we weren't able to get inside, what matters is that our voices were heard and I hope the government (DOT in particular) would do something about this.

DeleteEveryone has his/her own privacy. He/she should be respected, though we're in a democratic country. This doesn't necessarily mean that we're absolutely free. There are some limitations and we should observe that.
ReplyDeleteIn taking pictures, there are rules to follow especially when you're covering a delicate news items. Just taking pictures is not absolute, though you're intention is good, without malice at all. This is RandomThoughts! point of you. He may be right or he may be not!
I agree with what you said. Though the main concern was why people were prohibited taking pictures in public parks. =)
Deletesiguro dahil na din sa pag abuso ng iba sa likod ng lente ng kamera. tama si ser Gil, may mga limitations and we should observe that. marami na rin kasing nasira nang dahil sa kamera. yun ay pansariling pananaw ko lang naman n_n

DeleteWhat the heck! Bakit nga ba bawal magshoot? I understand that we are promoting the tourism industry in the Philippines, now bakit merong mga ganitong law tau sa Pinas? bakit nagiging bawal ang pagkuha ng mga litrato sa mga landmarks natin? ano bang nangyayari sa pinas?
ReplyDeleteIts more on mismanagement between higher-ups and the security guards. Hindi ko rin masisisi ang mga sikyu kasi sunod-sunuran lang sila sa sinasabi sa nakatataas ng hindi na nagiisip.

ReplyDeletecguro kung involving people or incidents (like ung HK nationalities hostage taking) un dapat humingi muna ng approval pero ung public places ano naman ang invasion of privacy dun?
OO nga bakit bawal...binebenta natin ang turismo ng ating bansa at syempre parte nyan ang pagkuha ng mga litrato...ano ang explanation ng Luneta managment.

Penge po ng shirt ang ganda! Ha ha ha! Isa pa pong lugar bawal mag shoot sa SM Novaliches=)) Bawal daw po kasi baka kopyahin design nila sa ceiling natawa ako. Kasi nag shoot ako ng Christmas decor nila sinita po ako ng gwardya at ng manager ata yun. Eh hindi naman po ako gagaya sa decor nila ayaw ko naman po magmukhang SM bahay namin =))

ReplyDeleteif they care about tourism then there's no reason for the "bawal mag shoot dito". it's one way to expose our places to other places and how can that be possible now?
ReplyDeleteI was surprised when news came out that it's no longer allowed to take photos there. It's a landmark and a tourist attraction so why not right?

ReplyDeleteI've never had a problem with shooting in Luneta. Lagi kami dun nagpho-photoshoot :D They're lenient naman, ang bawal lang ata is 'pag madami na masyadong equipment na nagmumukhang for commercial purposes na ang shoot.. :)
ReplyDeleteThere are places you are allowed to take photographs in the UK or Europe. Example watching this spectacular show. The host will announce that talking video and pictures are not allowed during the presentations. You can't stop people, can you? If the company found out let say on youtube the video was taken. You'll be asked to delete it or you'll be charge. The main reason is privacy they don't want their future viewers can watch their show on youtube for free. I have read a blog she was wearing different dress from one of the shops in Manila then she blog everything that surprise me. What if the comapany sue her for publishing clothes without their permission? It's like Angelina Jolie having her photoshoot in Vietnam with using Louie Vuitton handbag on the boat. Ruined the image of the branding and it cost her fortunes for that photograph. Tyra Banks Supermodel charge for sexy photoshoot in Arab countries. They thought is okay it's public but it's not okay for thw Arabs. I think Filipinos should set their limitations in photography. Photography is not all about taking photographs their are too many aspect to considered and learn.

ReplyDeleteHave they not changed this rule? From what I know, we can already take photos as long as it is not for commercial or monetary purposes. Also, you can shoot for commercial as long as you get a permit which is just right.
