Today marks the 19th year of celebrating The World Oceans Day. Its theme for 2011 (and 2012) would be theme is Youth: the Next Wave for Change. People around the planet celebrate and honor the body of water which links us all, for what it provides humans and what it represents.
World Oceans Day, which had been unofficially celebrated every June 8 since its original proposal in 1992 by Canada at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, was officially recognized by the United Nations in 2008. Since then it has been coordinated internationally by The Ocean Project and the World Ocean Network with greater success and global participation each year.
Seventy percent of the earth's surface consists of water are now facing obstacles from depletion of natural resources to the effects of climate change to the deterioration of marine environment and to other issues caused by us people.
Now its the time to save our oceans and restore it back to its old glory.
