Cancer is the uncontrolled growth and spread of cells. It can affect almost any part of the body. The growths often invade surrounding tissue and can metastasize to distant sites. Many cancers can be prevented by avoiding exposure to common risk factors, such as tobacco smoke. In addition, a significant proportion of cancers can be cured, by surgery, radiotherapy or chemotherapy, especially if they are detected early.
World Cancer Day takes place on February 4 each year - together with our members and partners our goal is to raise awareness about cancer around the world.
This year UICC (Union for International Cancer Control) will continue to work with a dedicated advisory group, consisting of key members to plan, prepare and develop the World Cancer Day campaign in order to deliver a range of marketing/ communications tools for 2012.
